EMMINVEST investor discussions in Lisbon, Portugal, on 3 July 2013

05 July 2013

The last of 3 Investors Workshops was organized in Lisbon, Portugal, at the same venue of the Future Network and Mobile Summit 2013 – an annual conference supported by the European Commission which addressed the challenges of building the Future Internet Infrastructures, based on mobile, wireless and fixed broadband communications technologies.

After organizing similar events in Sófia and Barcelona, EMMINVEST invited relevant investors and stakeholders representing venture capital firms, business angel networks, mobile corporate firms, and national government financial schemes, to further discuss the design of a cross-border funding facility for Mobile & Mobility Industries in Europe.

Ms. Sara Medina, Member of the Board of SPI - Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação and APBA – Portuguese Business Angel Association, opened the event with a presentation of EMMINVEST and an explanation of the ambitious goals of the investor workshops. Ms. Cindy Wu, International Consultant of SPI, presented the initial evaluation results of the study conducted by EMMINVEST through interviews to key investors on different models for such investment facility.

The presentation was followed by two roundtable discussions to provide the opportunity to discuss potential funding sources for new investment facilities as well as conditions for success. Mr. Walter Palma, Director at Caixa Capital, moderated the first debate session, which focused on the needed actions to strengthen existing funding possibilities and the complementary benefits of the EMMINVEST funding facility. Afterwards, Mr. Paulo Andrez – President of EBAN – European Business Angels Network, moderated a discussion on the mechanisms by which the fund can be implemented and the right conditions for success.
