SPI in Azores for kick off meeting of FP7 project about Biodiversity

SPI suported the organization and took part in the kick-off meeting (KOM) of the NetBiome-CSA project in Ponta Delgada, Azores (Portugal) from 9 to 10 July 2013. The meeting was hosted by the project coordinator, Fundo Regional da Ciência, and had the participation of several international partners: Agence de Developpement Economique de la Nouvelle Caledonie, Guadeloupe Region, Réunion Region, PLOCAN (Canarias), Agence Nationale de la Recherche (France), ECOLOGIC Institute (Germany), Fundação EUROCEAN (Portugal), NATURALIS Biodiversity Center (Netherlands) and Instituto Nacional de Desenvolvimento das Pescas de Cabo Verde. 

The main objectives of the meeting were to overview the NetBiome-CSA project, introducing the consortium and refining the role of each partner, presenting the communication and dissemination strategy and tools, together with the project management and reporting tools and procedures. 

A message from the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture (that supervises the Regional Fund for Science, the project coordinator) was read at the opening session. On behalf of the Government of the Azores, the Secretary welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of the project for the Azores and the commitement to support the project in all its local activities. 
NetBiome-CSA is a project funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). It aims at strengthening European research cooperation for smart and sustainable management of tropical and subtropical biodiversity in outermost regions and overseas countries and territories. SPI supports the coordinator in the project management and will also contribute the future sustainability of the NetBiome network.
