SPI partner in the NetBiome project, which promotes scientific collaboration in the area of sustainable biodiversity management in the outermost and overseas regions

From 8 - 11 June 2015 the fourth project meeting of the NetBiome project was held in Saint Denis, Reunión. SPI participated in this meeting with the representatives of the Azores, Canaries, Reunión, New Caledonia and the Dutch Caribbean, as well as the French, Dutch and German research organizations.

NetBiome, in which SPI is a partner, is funded by the European Commission. It’s aim is to develop cooperation promotes scientific collaboration in the area of sustainable tropical and subtropical biodiversity management in the outermost and overseas regions.

During the meeting, which also included the participation of three external specialists, four challenges were discussed for which the consortium is developing policy recommendations: integrated conservation through territorial planning; sustainable agriculture and forestry practices; sustainable management and biodiversity conservation; knowledge-based decision-making on coastal and maritime issues.
