Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) organised the Dragonstar Plus 1st Business Tour at China High Tech Fair 2016 (CHTF) in Shenzhen, China

On November 16th to 21st, the first Dragon-STAR Plus Business Tour took place in Shenzhen, China during the China High Tech Fair 2016 (CHFT) period. The business tour was organized by SPI and it provided the opportunity for European organizations interested in developing R&D cooperation with Chinese organizations. The tour focused on the ICT (Telecommunications, Hardware, Software, IT Services, etc.) and Green Tech (Energy, Material, Biotech, Recycling, Environment, etc.) sectors.

In total 12 European organizations from eight member states participated in the tour, including France, Germany, UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Greece and Romania. The EU organizations were mainly SMEs, research institutes and universities with focusing on ICT and Green tech.

A Seminar: EU-China cooperation on ICT and Green Technologies was also organized during the tour with participations from both European and Chinese organizations. Ms. Rositsa Petrova, S&T Attaché and Policy Officer at EU Delegation to China, delivered a speech on EU Science, Technology and Innovation Priorities: Opportunities for Cooperation with China. She mentioned “Compared with FP7, Horizon 2020 will be more focused on R&D and innovation. It also encourages R&D to be market-oriented”.

During the CHTF, a booth of DragonStar Plus was built and promoted Horizon 2020 to the visitors. Exhibitor visits and B2B meetings were arranged for the EU participants to build the partnerships with Chinese firms. The exhibitors are specialized in IT, Energy, Environmental protection, New Energy, Green Buildings, Smart City, New Electronic Technology, Optoelectronics Display and Aerospace.

Apart from the fair, the EU participants also visited three Chinese companies: Huawei, Royale and DJI. Huawei is the leading ICT solution provider, established a competitive ICT portfolio of end-to-end solutions in telecom and enterprise networks, devices, and cloud computing. Royale develops high quality electronic applications for innovative display technologies. DJI develops and produces the flying and camera stabilization systems redefine camera placement and motion to offer amazing photos and video, treasured personal memories, and high-end professional imagery.

On November 17th, many companies promoted and introduced the new technology during the meeting, including green tech and ICT. The interviews of two EU participants were Sunamp and ARENA INNOVATION. Mr. Bob Austin, Manager of Sunamp, introduced the green energy product “Heat Batteries” that can store heat energy and it can be used for household and community. Now, the heat batteries have been applied in many European household. Sunamp is now looking for partners that come from lead player in the Chinese market with specialization of OEMs in residential or renewable energy.

On the other hand, ARENA INNOVATION develops innovative FCH (Fuel Cell & Hydrogen) technologies. Mr. Schuster, CEO of ARENA INNOVATION, mentioned that Europe is now looking for creating the “Hydrogen Society”. Recently, ARENA-INNOVATION is looking for partners for Horizon 2020 or FCH-JU (Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking) programmes.
