Community Engagement Session of EHHUR project: Energy Park
We’re excited to share the latest development in our community engagement efforts within the European Eyes Hearts Hands project, supported by the horizon Europe program. As a Lighthouse city for the New European Bauhaus, we continue to foster positive change!
Following our sessions on “Housing” and “Public Space,” our latest event cantered around Energy, a pivotal topic for this project on 31st of July in light house city of Portugal, Maia. With Sobreiro neighbourhood designated as a key site for a Positive Energy District and a prospective renewable energy community within the SPARCSeu project, this event aimed to enhance community cohesion and a sense of belonging.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Maia Municipality, Espaço Municipal, Renovação Urbana e Gestão de Património, AdEPorto – and SPI – Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação, we successfully engaged an enthusiastic group of elderly residents and children. Participants explored energy concepts through interactive games, painting session around energy topic, informative publications, and various exhibits. Highlights included a popular display on the components of a self-consumption production unit, emphasizing the growing significance of renewable energy and energy efficiency in our daily lives.
The event was inaugurated by Marta Peneda, Councilor for Quality of Life, Environment, Climate, and Energy. She underscored the critical role of such sessions in advancing energy literacy within our community, especially amidst the current crisis, which demands a holistic and integrated climate and energy transition that benefits everyone, following the principle of “leaving no one behind.”
