Ready, steady… Innovate! Bridging innovation and climate action at the Regions4Climate General Assembly
The Regions4Climate Consortium, composed of 45 public and private European partners, held its General Assembly meeting in Copenhagen, organised by our project partners from Køge Bay. SPI participated in this meeting as the WP6 leader, focused on Innovation Management.
From May 20 to 22, the Consortium reviewed the project’s progress and exchanged knowledge and best practices, along with several field visits to the demo region of Køge Bay/Copenhagen. During these visits, we all had the opportunity to observe firsthand the efforts being made in coastal and urban planning aimed at enhancing climate resilience, including innovative solutions designed to address the region’s climate challenges. Additionally, we heard about the significant advancements made by the other demonstration regions in the last 12 months – their local initiatives, challenges, and planned activities – ranging from faster adaptation strategies (the Basque Country, the Azores, South Aquitaine, and Tuscany), to smarter adaptation (Køge Bay, Burgas, Pärnumaa, and Uusimaa) and systemic adaptation approaches (Sitia, Troodos, the Nordic Archipelago, and Castilla y León).
SPI leads the innovation work package, supporting the regions in the implementation of innovative solutions for climate resilience by developing frameworks, processes, and tools focused on innovation, including the delivery of 12 Regional Innovation Roadmaps (RIR) that were co-developed by the regions last year.
To identify capacity-building needs, SPI organised a workshop at the meeting in Copenhagen to involve partner regions in enhancing the potential of R4C innovation initiatives, thus fostering sustainability beyond the project. The outcomes of this initiative will be essential for determining the next steps.
