Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) has participated in the kick-off meeting of the “Resinfra Plus-Towards a sustainable EU-LAC partnership in Research Infrastructures” project held on February 29th and March 1st in Madrid, Spain.

The project will have a total duration of two years and involves the participation of Ministries, National Agencies and Research Centers of the European Union countries (Spain, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania, UK) and Latin American and Caribbean countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru, Uruguay) for a total of 20 partners, including 2 as associates (AP).

The main objective of the project is to identify best practices in cooperation between EU and Latin American and Caribbean countries in the field of research infrastructures and to support the development of bi-regional cooperation models. To this end, it is necessary to take into account what has been achieved under the previous ResInfra project, funded by the H2020 program, and the Research Infrastructure Working Group, established within the framework of the JIRI-SOM (EU-LAC Joint Initiative on Research and Innovation – Senior Official Meeting), a bi-regional strategic forum attended by delegates from the Member States and countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting, it has been deemed necessary to increase the visibility of both EU and LAC RI models and characteristics to advance in a greater collaboration for a common roadmapping exercise, agreements in long term funding, transnational access, capacity building and mutual openness for the development of a RIs common area.

SPI was represented by Francisco Rocha and Vera Cristal, who had productive discussions with initiative partners. They shared valuable insights on past achievements and actively contributed to shaping the future trajectory of the project for the forthcoming years.
