On 1st March, SPI – Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação participated in the 1st GeneBEcon Systems Mapping Workshop represented by Raquel Almeida and Diana Sousa. The event took place in Brussels, Belgium.

GeneBEcon – Capturing the potential of Gene editing for a sustainable BioEconomy – is a Horizon Europe-funded project that will examine the innovation potential of gene editing in enabling a sustainable bioeconomy in Europe. Through the application of this technology in potato and microalgae, GeneBEcon intends to promote energy-efficient, low-input, and zero-pollution agricultural production and clean industrial processing.

The project is coordinated by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Sweden), and involves a multi-sectoral consortium with 18 partner organizations from 11 European countries. The consortium is characterized by an interdisciplinary and multi-actor systems approach. SPI is the partner responsible for the project’s marketing and communication activities and the participatory approaches to communication, dissemination, and stakeholder engagement.
