SPI attended the kick-off meeting of the SEHRENE project in Grenoble, France
On the 24th and 25th of January, SPI – Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação participated in the kick-off meeting of the SEHRENE project –Store Electricity and Heat foR climatE Neutral Europe.
The kick-off meeting took place at Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) in Grenoble, France.
Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Program in the scope of Research and Innovation Actions, the project proposes to study a novel Electro-Thermal Storage (ETES) with a disruptive architecture unlocking the main technological issue in the pioneering ETES concept.
SEHRENE will address how Thermal Energy Storage will serve both as a condenser (in charging mode) and evaporator (in discharging mode) and how it will enable recovery of Industrial Waste Heat and Renewable Heat, acting as a thermal booster to increase electricity production and round-trip efficiencies. SEHRENE’s storage relies on a solid European foundation of European scientific, engineering and industrial expertise, meeting Europe’s energy transition needs.
SEHRENE project will last 42 months and gathers a total of 11 partners: 8 partners from 5 different EU (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA), France; Université de Liège (ULiège), Belgium; Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), Italy; Turboden SPA (TURBODEN), Italy; Fundación CIRCE – Centro de Investigación de Recursos y Consumos Energéticos (CIRCE), Spain; Torrecid SA (Torrecid SA), Spain; Cuerva Energia SLU (CUERVA ENERGIA), Spain and Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI), Portugal) and 3 partners from non-EU countries (Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Üretim A.ş (ZORLU AS), Turkey; Technovative Solutions LTD (TVS), United Kingdom and the University of Leicester (ULEIC), United Kingsom). The project started in January 2024 and is coordinated by CEA.
