SPI attends the MALDIBANK Horizon Europe funded-project Kick-off Meeting (KoM) in Braga

SPI was proud to participate at the MALDIBANK KoM, a ground-breaking project funded under the Horizon Europe programme. Held from May 13–15, 2025, the event took place at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, and marked the official launch of the initiative.

MALDIBANK aims to create an open-access microbial databank for the identification and categorisation of microbial organisms. The project will play a vital role in advancing microbial research by enhancing data accessibility and supporting more efficient microbial processing, characterization, and epidemiological surveillance.

Representing SPI at the event were Douglas Thompson, Elisa Frias-Bulhosa and Maria Silva, who presented the Work Package 6 for Dissemination, communication and outreach.
Key highlights of the MALDIBANK KoM included:
• In-depth presentations of each Work Package, detailing the tasks and resources involved;
• Strategic meetings to define methodologies and align partner expectations;
• Valuable networking opportunities among the 24 consortium partners, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding.

SPI’s active engagement reflects its continued commitment to support EU-funded research and innovation and promote international scientific cooperation.

By the KoM conclusion, partners left with a clear roadmap and renewed motivation to bring MALDIBANK’s ambitious goals to fruition.
