SPI participates in Marine and Freshwater Restoration Initiatives Showcase and Macaronight 2024
On the 25th of September 2024, SPI (Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação) actively participated in the Marine and Freshwater Restoration Initiatives Showcase organised by the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) in Gran Canaria, as part of the Misson Ocean CSA of the Atlantic and Artic sea basin lighthouse, BlueMissionAA, an Horizon Europe project in which SPI is a partner. Represented by consultants Diana Sousa and Ivan Sá Vieira, SPI contributed to the discussions surrounding marine restoration projects, particularly in the sessions focused on the Wave Links platform and recommendations for Smart Specialization Strategies. Wave Links is designed to share valuable data and insights on marine restoration initiatives. Moreover, all partners collaborated to refine recommendations for Smart Specialization Strategies, a critical component of BlueMissionAA’s goals.
On the 26th and 27th of September, SPI continued its work at Macaronight 2024, held at the Elder Museum of Science and Technology in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. SPI engaged with more than 500children through interactive and playful activities designed to raise awareness about the EU Mission Ocean, ocean restoration, and the impact of everyday actions on marine environments. Children participated in games, painting and writing activities, leaving with a deeper understanding of the importance of ocean conservation.
SPI is very thankful for the invitation from PLOCAN to attend the Marine and Freshwater Restoration Initiatives Showcase, as well as their incredible support on the ground. We appreciate the wonderful organisation of Macaronight 2024, from Elder’s staff to the incredibly energetic and joyous folk from Big Van Science.
