SPI Participation in RESPONSE Final Event in Turku Highlights Progress on Climate-Neutral Cities
SPI – Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação participated in the RESPONSE Final Event held in Turku, Finland, together with consortium partners from across Europe, including cities, research organisations, and industry stakeholders. SPI was represented by Ana Fernandes, Isabel Morais, and Brimoresa.
Across three days, discussions focused on advancing climate-neutral and smart cities through integrated energy systems, digital innovation, and scalable urban solutions.
Day 1 highlighted strategic urban visions and climate transition pathways, including Turku’s Climate Plan 2029 and Energy Vision 2040, as well as broader discussions on smart city contributions to EU climate goals, stakeholder cooperation, and citizen engagement. Participants also visited local initiatives showcasing sustainable urban development in practice.
Day 2 focused on technical and scalable solutions, including integrated energy systems, Positive Energy Districts, smart energy management, and circular business models. A site visit to Turku Student Village demonstrated real-life applications of renewable energy integration, storage systems, and energy efficiency solutions. Discussions further explored how these innovations can be replicated across European cities.
Day 3 was dedicated to the Project Steering Committee Meeting, reviewing project progress, upcoming deliverables, and coordination toward the project’s conclusion in September 2026, as well as preparations for the next final event in Dijon, France.
The event reinforced the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in accelerating Europe’s transition toward climate-neutral cities and sustainable urban systems.
