SPI Raises IP Awareness for European SMEs at Hannover Messe 2025
As part of the South-East Asia Intellectual Property (SEA IP) SME Helpdesk, SPI proudly participated in Hannover Messe 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology and innovation. This year’s edition brought together over 4,000 exhibitors and more than 127,000 industry professionals, reaffirming Hannover Messe’s role as a global platform for industrial transformation.
With 15 exhibition halls covering themes from automation and AI to green tech and international cooperation, Hannover Messe 2025 showcased the latest advancements in industry and engineering. Exhibitors from across the globe participated, with notable country-specific sections, most prominently, a strong presence from Turkish companies, and entire halls dedicated to Asian innovation and start-ups.
Representing the SEA IP SME Helpdesk, SPI focused on raising awareness about intellectual property (IP) protection in Southeast Asia among European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SPI team members Igor Lopes and Brimoresa Dhoro engaged with numerous European companies, many of which are already active in Southeast Asia or planning market expansion, but lacked awareness of regional IP regulations and support services.
The Helpdesk, funded by the European Commission, provides free, confidential, and first-line support to help EU SMEs protect and enforce their IP rights in Southeast Asia.
SPI’s strategic approach, targeting start-up zones and smaller booths, led to more focused and relevant conversations, avoiding the noise of larger corporations. SPI successfully delivered its mission and received strong interest from companies eager to learn how to protect their IP when entering Southeast Asian markets.
