SPI Represented at European Ocean Days

From March 3rd to 5th, Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) participated in the European Ocean Days in Brussels, under the BlueMissionAA and AtlantECO projects. This is a key event to shape European ocean policies and foster collaboration under the Mission Ocean banner.

Ivan Sá Vieira represented SPI at the Young Voices for the Ocean session, engaging with a diverse range of projects and initiatives which emphasised the role of youth participation in the European Ocean Pact, advocacy for ocean conservation & restoration and the blue economy careers of the future.

Diana Sousa and Septian Setiawan split efforts across a three-day series of events, including the Mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters Forum and Fisheries and Ocean Dialogues. These events gathered representatives from government, industry, and academia to address marine ecosystem restoration, pollution reduction & mitigation strategies, as well as the development of a climate-neutral blue economy.

The event also served as a platform to disseminate the AtlantECO policy brief, titledAdvancing equitable research cooperation in Ocean sciences across the Atlantic Ocean“, which advocates for more equitable and inclusive research practices in ocean science across the Atlantic.

Additionally, SPI team attended a networking event hosted by the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), our partners in BlueMissionAA, at the Nordic House. This event strengthened connections with long term partners and introduced SPI to new relevant institutions with extensive work on marine science & policy.

Through its active involvement, SPI reinforced its commitment to further international collaboration and innovation, ensuring that research and entrepreneurship contribute to the Mission’s 2030 objectives.
