SPI Represents SEA IP SME Helpdesk at Seafood Expo Global 2025

SPI participated in Seafood Expo Global 2025, held in Barcelona from 6 to 8 May, as part of its role in the South-East Asia (SEA) IP SME Helpdesk initiative. Represented by Brimoresa Dhoro, SPI joined this major international trade event to promote the importance of intellectual property (IP) protection for European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaging with South-East Asian markets.

The SEA IP SME Helpdesk is an EU-funded service that provides free, first-line IP support to EU SMEs operating or planning to expand into the ASEAN region. Through resources, training sessions, and confidential advice from IP experts, the Helpdesk assists companies in understanding how to protect their assets and manage IP risks in complex regulatory environments.

Seafood Expo Global brings together thousands of stakeholders from across the seafood industry, including producers, exporters, distributors, and technology providers. Many of these companies are either active in or exploring opportunities in international markets such as South-East Asia, making the event a strategic platform for outreach.

Throughout the event, SPI engaged with SMEs and business networks to share information about the Helpdesk’s services and raise awareness of IP-related challenges and solutions. Key topics included trademark protection, invention patents, counterfeiting risks, and best practices for incorporating IP strategies into internationalisation plans. The event also allowed SPI to distribute Helpdesk materials that are available online.

SPI’s involvement reinforces its commitment to supporting EU SMEs through practical knowledge sharing, international cooperation, and the promotion of strategic IP management. Events like Seafood Expo Global offer valuable opportunities to ensure that SMEs are not only prepared to enter new markets but are also equipped to protect and maximise their innovations.
