SPI Represents SEA IP SME Helpdesk at Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain – November 2025
SPI participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025, held from 4–6 November at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, one of the world’s leading events for urban innovation and technology.
The event gathered more than 1,100 exhibitors and 25,000 professionals from over 140 countries, showcasing the latest solutions that are shaping the cities of tomorrow. Spread across two main halls, the exhibition featured a diverse range of sectors, including energy, mobility, governance, digital transformation, and sustainable infrastructure.
Representing the South-East Asia (SEA) IP SME Helpdesk, SPI engaged with 19 companies from across Europe and beyond including Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Iceland, the UK, and the USA. Discussions focused on intellectual property (IP) awareness, especially regarding business expansion and IP protection in Southeast Asian markets.
While some exhibitors already demonstrated a solid understanding of IP, SPI identified a need for greater awareness about IP systems in SEA countries, highlighting an opportunity for targeted training and support. Several companies expressed interest in the Helpdesk’s free services, resulting in 15 inquiries and one confirmed follow-up consultation with an IP Business Advisor.
The event also provided a valuable opportunity for visibility, engagement, and intelligence gathering within the smart city innovation ecosystem, aligned closely with the Helpdesk’s mission of supporting European innovators exploring global markets.
SPI’s participation underscores its continued commitment to promoting IP knowledge, supporting EU SMEs, and strengthening bridges between European innovation and international opportunities.
