Strengthening EU–China Collaboration on Sustainable Agriculture: SPI Organizes Econutri Mission to Portugal & Spain
In parallel with the Econutri Consortium Meeting in Braga, Portugal, SPI organized a mission for the participating stakeholders to further explore Europe’s leading initiatives in sustainable agriculture and nutrient management. The visits aimed to strengthen cooperation between European and Chinese stakeholders through knowledge exchange and field experiences.
SPI was represented by Ziyi Guo and Juan Carlos Antón, who accompanied the delegation throughout the program and facilitated meetings, technical visits, and discussions with European experts and institutions.
Following the conclusion of the Econutri Consortium Meeting, the Chinese delegation continued its European journey from October 13–17, strengthening collaboration on sustainable agriculture, nutrient recycling, and the circular bioeconomy.
In Portugal, participants visited SPI, Green U Porto, and INIAV, engaging with leading experts in agri-innovation. The delegation then traveled to Almería, Spain, where the group explored cutting-edge research and practices at:
- University of Almería (UAL) and its research farm, represented by Maria Teresa Peña Fleitas
- IFAPA research centers in La Cañada de San Urbano and La Mojonera
- Servicios Ambientales Las Chozas (SACh) composting plant
These visits fostered valuable exchanges on sustainable nutrient management and strengthened partnerships between European and Chinese stakeholders under the Econutri initiative.
After a week of inspiring visits and discussions, participants returned to China, carrying new insights and opportunities for future collaboration.
We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all hosting organizations, researchers, and partners for their warm welcome and inspiring contributions throughout the mission.
